 Tharu Community Inspired Design

Sanctuary Resort is designed with the aim of incorporating the cultural significance of the Tharu community, which lives in the surroundings of Chitwan National Park. After studying the village and the architecture of Tharu Village, the resort was achieved by using the traditional craftsmanship of the Tharu people, available sustainable materials from the surrounding area of Chitwan and the rich textural language to create links with the existing community so the building belongs to the Tharu Community.

Sanctuary Resort is committed to designing buildings that seamlessly blend with the local “Tharu” community, ensuring a sense of belonging and harmony within the village. To achieve this, we have meticulously scaled down our buildings using linear structures and lightweight materials, allowing them to integrate with the natural surroundings effortlessly. Our architectural layout mirrors a traditional family compound, with a central courtyard serving as the heart of the design. Through thoughtful and intentional architecture, we have cultivated a safari-inspired atmosphere that immerses guests in the untamed wilderness, providing an outdoor living experience that fosters a deep connection to nature. Our ultimate vision is to authentically encapsulate the essence of the “Tharu Community” experience through our architectural approach, seamlessly merging our structures with the verdant grass landscape.
