Chitwan National Park is on our doorstep, ready for you to explore. This UNESCO World Heritage National Park is 932 sq km (with an additional 750 sq km of the buffer zone) of jungle nature at its finest. The park is home to over 43 species of mammals, including the Bengal tiger, leopard, sloth bear, deer, and Nepal’s largest one-horn rhinoceros population, as well as 45 species of reptiles and amphibians, including mugger crocodiles and gharials. The park also boasts over 500 different bird species (more than in any other protected area of Nepal) to delight the most avid bird watcher.
The vision behind Sanctuary is simple: to create a space that honors nature, culture, and time. Comfort is understated, experiences are unhurried, and the wilderness and local communities are approached with respect. Every decision -from design to operations – reflects a commitment to conservation, cultural heritage, and lasting harmony with the land.
The architecture blends quietly into its surroundings, allowing the landscape to remain the true focal point. Spaces are designed to encourage reflection, connection, and a deeper appreciation of place. We believe luxury is found in authenticity, not excess, and in moments that feel meaningful rather than hurried. Sanctuary exists to leave a gentle footprint – one that nurtures the land, the people, and those who pass through it.
Built to Belong
Sanctuary Chitwan National Park was conceived as a retreat where luxury is measured in stillness, authenticity, and connection. Nestled in Amaltari, Nawalpur, on the quieter western edge of Chitwan National Park, the resort blends seamlessly with its surroundings, allowing both jungle and local culture to take center stage.
Architecture
Sanctuary draws inspiration from the cultural heritage of the indigenous Tharu community, with villas arranged in clusters around a central courtyard – mirroring the rhythm of a traditional homestead. Designed by Sri Lankan architect Palinda Kannangara, the architecture emphasizes simplicity, context, and connection to nature. Local materials – earth, timber, and stone – form tactile, breathable structures that frame light, air, and jungle views. Every space, proportion, and material is chosen to create calm, belonging, and harmony with the forest, allowing the resort to blend naturally into its surroundings while offering understated comfort and intimacy.
At Sanctuary, the pace is deliberate and immersive. Guests move through the jungle and local villages with curiosity and care, encountering wildlife in its natural habitat and engaging with the traditions of the Tharu community. From learning about Tharu way of living through cultural evening to visiting village and museum, every experience celebrates the people, culture, and rhythms of Chitwan. Here, luxury is measured in authenticity, presence, and meaningful connection—both to the land and its people.
